Cuisine
Van Hook is a ghost town in the state of North Dakota located in Van Hook Township in Mountrail County. The original town site was inundated when Lake Sakakawea was formed in the 1950s, and most of the residents moved to New Town. Much of the old town site is underwater, and that which remains was converted to a park near Lake Sakakawea. We are located just north of Van Hook and east of New Town!
Questions and answers
Do you have to have a reservation?
Amanda, Reservations are not required, although we preferred you do because sometimes we get filled up with large reservations and have a waiting line, especially on weekends. We also take your order for baked potatoes when we take your reservation. If there is a waiting line the people with reservations get preference for seating. Now that the high school football season has begun we get capacity crowds on Friday nite with large groups, If you had a reservation your table will be waiting. Thanks for asking. Dave Ross

We will be open for takeout and curbside. It hurts us not to open for dining. We have too many employees over 65 or living with immune compromised family to allow the public access to the whole building. We want this all to be over as bad as you do. If one employee got sick it would shut down the business.
I have a friend and his family moving to the area in a couple of months. How would I go about getting a gift certificate for him and his family from your steakhouse?

Food was great! Selection is sufficient. Steaks come with fries, but other options are available for a price. The pie was good too. Nice experience.

The Chicken Fried Steak is the best anywhere. And fresh cut fries. Portions are large and prices reasonable. Well worth the trip. The cobbler was good as well. It is like eating in your grandmother's kitchen.

Have always heard about Ranchmans I Ponder so decided to try it out. Service was fantastic. The chicken fried steak was large but the taste was a little off. Would go back and will try a steak!

Food was amazing and staff was very friendly! Very unique menus, looked like the local newspaper. Steak was cooked perfect and was juicy to the last bite. Homemade dressing and desserts were so good we got some to go. Staff was so helpful, friendly and genuine. It was a little out of our way but it was 100% worth the detour!

Delicious ribeye. I had the fries. I drove an hour to check this place out for lunch. I am so thankful I did. Been wanting to come here for 2 years. Would love to come back during a busier time just to people watch. Seems like a place that inspires adventures and a place to come after them. I put a you are beautiful sticker in the bathroom mirror. Wonder how long it stays

Best steaks. The service was really good. It is a hole in the wall. It is as big as the town hall square. A little bit of a drive from fort worth, but worth the drive. Also try the chicken fried steak. They have good deserts.

We should have dined in rather than takeout burgers to go. I was impressed by the quality and overall taste of the beef. The ratio of beef to veggies wasn't proportionate in my opinion. Romaine isn't my first choice for a cheeseburger. I will try again soon.

Had the chicken fried steak... really good! I was the only one in my party who liked their rolls. The fries were fresh cut and made to order...The pies looked amazing.. I didn't try any ordered since I'm still in a food induced coma..

Nice selection of items and they seem to understand how to cook it to the proper temp. A nice surprise. They have quail quarters for $2 each. They advertise most items are locally sourced.
